ABOUT İZMİR NEW MUSIC DAYS
Initiated by composer and artistic director Füsun Köksal İncirlioğlu in collaboration with the Goethe Institute-İzmir, İzmir New Music Days was established in 2019 as an annual festival dedicated to contemporary music. Each year the festival presents a selection of repertory not often found in the concert scene in Türkiye by staging contemporary composers whose works are informed by the mid-century modernism, who follow the path to the new and the experimental, and welcomes world-renown musicians, ensembles and composers here in İzmir. Since 2019 we are proud to welcome distinguished guests including Ensemble KNM-Berlin; Ensemble Mosaik-Berlin; Yaşar University New Music Ensemble; hand werk-Cologne; Alfredo Ovalles; Kevin Toksöz Fairbairn; Winnie Hung; E-MEX Ensemble; Duo Fie Schouten; Katharina Gross; Das Neue Ensemble; Eva Zöllner – Heather Roche and welcomed composers like Prof. Marco Stroppa, Niklas Seidl, Vassos Nicolaou, Christof Maria Wagner, and Özkan Manav. We are also proud to be featured by Atelier Neue Music by Deutschlandfunk in 2023 and 2024. In addition to its regular concert programming featuring recent works of our time, the festival is committed to provide numerous opportunities for young composers to create pieces for its distinguished guests. As part of this initiative, we are excited to launch our Next Generation Series. The festival has been generously supported by institutions including Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung (2023-2024), Goethe Institute-İzmir (2019-2024), Austrian Cultural Forum (2021-2023), Goethe Institute-Koproduktions Fonds (2025),Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (2023), Kunststiftung NRW (2023), Yaşar University (2019, 2022), İzmir Foundation For Culture, Arts and Education (2019-2024), and Init-İstanbul (2019-2024). As we celebrated the sixth edition of the festival this year, we are excited to emphasize that nearly all the works performed are presented in Türkiye for the first time. This milestone is not only a testament to the festival’s commitment to promoting contemporary music but also reflects our dedication to fostering meaningful connections between renowned composers, musicians, and ensembles, and firmly place this country on the global itinerary through İzmir New Music Days.
